Once I found out the International Vintage Guitar Collectors Association Show was in town, I immediately headed down there to check things out. The IVGCA is a great organization that helps connect sellers with collectors so they can get top dollar for their new or vintage instruments. They make the whole process simple. Basically you just bring all the pieces you're interested in selling and an on-site expert will evaluate
your instrument, then consult IVGCA's considerable collector database. If they find an interested collector an offer is made on the spot; and if you accept, you are paid in-full right there at the show. Pretty awesome!I had a great time chatting about guitars with the experts. There were some ultra-cool pieces there, such as an $18,000 Gretsch and an awesome $14,000 1950s Fender Stratocaster!

According to the IVGCA website, many people have treasures worth tens of thousands of dollars and don't even realize it: "The IVGCA has recently uncovered some rare guitars that could be hiding in a closet, attic, or basement near you. A 1960 Gibson Les Paul guitar sold for $100,000, a 1961 Gibson Les Paul SG sold for $25,000 and a 1954 Shore Line Gold Telecaster sold for $19,000! Millions of dollars have been spent on guitars from all over the world! "
If you think you may have a valuable instrument, no matter the condition, it would definitely be worth the trip to get it evaluated.

nice site
ReplyDeleteCool guitars man...I bet they all cost a fortune...I wish I was there to see the collection for myself...
ReplyDeleteI would tend to be a little cautious of this outfit. Read the following from the BBB site:
ReplyDeleteOn February 26, 2010, Mr. Jeff Parsons, President of Treasure Hunters Roadshow (aka International Vintage Guitar Collectors Association), was quoted in The State Journal Register "We deal in used merchandise," he said. "We don't appraise. We tell people what we're going to pay. It boils down to what a person will sell something for and what we're willing to pay for it."
